ADD WOMEN TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

I READ with interest the May 2 article ("The top `volunteer' ") concerning Carilion Health System. Those who have migrated to this area are impressed by, and thankful for, the excellent medical facilities in the valley. However, I was surprised (or perhaps appalled) to discover that not one woman is a member of Carilion's board of directors.

Women play a large and important part in the health fields, and certainly have valuable input and expertise to contribute. I encourage Carilion Health System to update its thinking along this line, and add not one but a number of women to its board. RUTH RANDA MONETA
