Glenn Anglin, president of Paperworkers Local 675, said his union is worried about "piecemeal" contracting of work to companies outside the mill by the paperboard maker.
The jobs of 26 storeroom employees are in danger, he said, because Westvaco has moved the storage of such products as structural steel, pipe, antifreeze and bearings to subcontract operations. The union protested contracting at a Covington bearings company last week.
Anglin said the Salterini warehouse to be picketed is owned by Wallace Byer, part owner of Covington Motor Co., a Ford dealer. Anglin said that if Byer wants union members to buy cars from his company, he should stop taking their warehouse storage.
Byer could not be reached Tuesday and Westvaco had no comment. - Staff report
