PROFITEERING ON INDECENCY

THE APRIL 17 "Off-beat" column by Kathleen Wilson entitled "Backstage, star gazing lost appeal," concerning the Guns N' Roses April 15 concert at the Roanoke Civic Center, was the most disgusting thing I've read about since Sodom and Gomorrah. The lewd, obscene, indecent account of it should make a decent person blush. It sounded like hell itself! No wonder there's so much decadence and immorality among young people.

What are the civic leaders and city fathers doing to help build the morale of future generations when they promote an irresponsible, deranged bunch of maniacs that fill minds with filth and indecency? They think proceeds from a full house will do wonders for the city. Yes, it will employ more policemen, lawyers and give business to the beer joints and liquor stores, but what a price to pay for our young people's minds. In the long haul, it brings us down to ashes just as Sodom and Gomorrah fell! GERTRUDE MITCHELL ROANOKE
