PULASKI TOWN COUNCIL OKS EXPANDED RESTAURANT

Pulaski Town Council has approved a conditional-use permit that will allow Woody's Restaurant at 1211 Lee Highway to expand.

Owners Melvin and Rhonda Chrisley plan to build a horseshoe game pit and patio inside a 10-foot fence at the northern end of the restaurant building. Customers would be able to bring their food and alcoholic beverages onto the patio.

The Pulaski Planning Commission had recommended approval, and council followed that recommendation Tuesday night.

Council will begin working on its 1993-94 budget sessions next week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, starting at 7 a.m.

It also will meet Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. with Bill Aden, an engineer with Draper Aden Associates of Blacksburg, to go over the firm's research of water and sewer rates in Virginia.

The town will have to raise its own water rates soon to finance repairs where the system is wearing out, pay an increasing debt service bill, provide services obligated to newly annexed parts of town, and make up for a lower-than-anticipated use of water by high-volume industrial users this year.

Mayor Gary Hancock said there was a consensus among council members to complete the renovation of the train station donated to the town by Norfolk Southern Corp. He said there was enough money available to complete the interior and concrete pad outside, leaving outside landscaping to be finished.

Council has authorized Hancock to appoint a committee of citizens and town representatives to make recommendations on completing the project, including what to do with another building on the property. The building, now empty, formerly housed a bus terminal and cab stand.

Town Manager Thomas M. Combiths, attending his first council meeting as manager, said town offices would be closed May 31 for Memorial Day.
