WYTHE SUPERVISORS RAISING TAX RATE 4

The Wythe County Board of Supervisors is planning a 4-cent increase in the real estate tax to finance needs of the county's volunteer fire departments.

The current real estate tax rate is 56 cents per $100 of assessed valuation.

The board also agreed Tuesday night to add $14,000 to its proposed 1993-94 budget to make sure no employees of constitutional officers get a pay cut July 1. The county would make up for lost state funds.

The decisions followed a three-hour closed session, during which the board interviewed four candidates for the newly created post of county engineer.

No decision has been made on which one to hire.
