Bobby Warnick scored the game's lone goal at 25:30 of the second half, on an assist from Jaime Garcerant. With the clearing help of sweeper Martin Szumanski, Knights goaltender Justin Brittle turned in the shutout with six saves.

Northside and William Byrd advanced to tonight's Blue Ridge District championship game with semifinal wins at Daleville. The Vikings beat host Lord Botetourt 4-0, while Byrd downed Salem 4-2. J.J. Larsen had all of Northside's goals and Jason Roberts posted the shutout in goal. Michael Berry had a pair of goals in Byrd's victory, while Chris Sowers and Andy McCaskill added one each. Tonight's final begins at 7 at Daleville.
\ GIRLS' SOCCER: At Cave Spring, the Knights scored three second-half goals to pull away for a 4-1 win over Patrick Henry in the Roanoke Valley District tournament championship game.
Tiffany Jackson scored two goals for Cave Spring and Aimee Beightol and Colby Gardner had one each. The Knights will play host to the Cardinal District runner-up on Monday in the Northwestern Region tournament.
Carrie Moore and Ayisha Whitenack scored for the Patriots, who will travel to play the Cardinal champion on Monday.
\ BASEBALL: Alleghany managed only four hits off Lord Botetourt right-hander Billy Arthur, but still defeated the Cavaliers 6-3 in a Blue Ridge District game at Daleville. Scott Carper had two hits and two RBI for Alleghany (15-3 overall, 7-3 district). Arthur fanned 11 Mountaineers and permitted only one earned run but still took the loss.
\ SOFTBALL: Dee Aldrich went 3-for-4 and was the winning pitcher as William Byrd posted an 11-7 Blue Ridge District victory over Alleghany. Brandy Brown was 3-for-4 for the Mountaineers.
