STATEMENTS GIVEN IN RAINBOW TRIAL

Two witnesses will testify they saw a Florida man shoot two women after they refused sex in 1980 and others will say they saw several men washing out the van which carried the dead women, a prosecutor said Wednesday.

Greenbrier County Circuit Judge Charles Lobban and a jury heard opening statements in the trial of Beard, 47, of Crescent City, Fla., who is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to abduct with intent to defile, a sex-related crime.

He is one of four men accused in the deaths of Nancy Santomero, 19, of Huntington, N.Y., and Vicki Durian, 26, of Wellman, Iowa. They were killed on June 25, 1980, while traveling to the Rainbow Family gathering in the Monongahela National Forest.
