OBIT VANCE, YOLANDE HENDERSON
VANCE, Yolande Henderson, 96, of Marion, widow of Fred V. Vance Sr., died
Tuesday, May 18, 1993, in Smyth County Community Hospital. Mrs. Vance was a
native of Oklahoma City. She was a graduate of Randolph Macon Woman's College
and did graduate work at George Washington University. For several years she
worked in the Ordinance Section of the War Department in Washington, D.C. She
married Morton D. Henderson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and made her home in
Baton Rouge for thirty years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr.
Henderson, and one son, John Morton Henderson. Mrs. Vance had lived in Bristol
since 1958. She was an Episcopalian and a member of Ft. Chiswell Chapter
D.A.R. and a P.E.O. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Leo Patterson of
Wytheville; four nephews, Richard Slaven, Baltimore, Md., Dr. James Patterson
of Marion, John Patterson, Wytheville, and Bruce Patterson, Bristol, Va.;
three stepsons, Dr. Graham Vance of West Plains, Mo., Dr. Frederick Vance of
Bristol, Tenn., and Allen Vance of Savannah, Ga. A memorial service will be
held Friday, May 21, 1993, at 4 p.m. in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in
Bristol, Va., with Rev. George Bunn officiating. Burial will follow in
Roselawn Memorial Park in Baton Rouge, La. The family suggests that flowers be
omitted. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service, Marion, is in charge of arrangements.
