DANCE RECITAL SET FOR CIVIC CENTER

The Ardell Stone School of Dancing will hold its annual recital on Friday in the Roanoke Civic Center auditorium at 7 p.m.

The recital is free.

Several students will receive awards.

Sarah Sharply, Erin Jamieson and Kelly Conklin will receive 12-year awards.

Hillary Platt, Heather Krause and Emmy Spencer will receive 10-year awards.

Five-year awards will be presented to Kate Sawyer, Lisa Webber, Lauren Wright, Samantha King, Victoria Bassett, Erin Callahan, Berky Viar, Emily Graham, Kara McKinney, Tara Lee, Julie Thompson, Lauren Coyne, Lindsey Bayne, Jessica Hedrick, Ashley Nash, Trent Currin, Sherri Stroop, Sally Viar, Sidney Poole, Sarah Lyon, Lauren Powledge, Katie Laguex, Maegan Wilburn, Ashlee Wilburn, Cara Hall, Rhonada Rusmisel, Maggie Light, Melanie Hannah.

Students in the junior and senior performing groups recently won awards in the Showstoppers Regional Competition in Charleston, W.Va.

The juniors won first place in jazz and first place in tap in the 11-12 small group category. They placed second overall in tap and seventh overall in jazz.

Both groups won first place in the 13- to 14-year-old lyrical ballet division and second overall.

The seniors also won first place in the 15- to 16-year-old small group jazz and tap categories. They placed third overall in jazz and second overall in tap.

Overall awards were given to those with the highest scores. Both groups qualified for national competition in New York in June.
