HOLOCAUST COMPARISON IS WRONG

PEOPLE keep comparing abortion to the Holocaust, as Paul T. Aspas did in his May 8 letter to the editor ("Where's abortion memorial?"). It seems he thinks "we out-Hitlered Hitler."

But Hitler and his government chose to eliminate real, live, breathing people. The people had no choice at all in the decision. With Roe vs. Wade, our leaders and government leave it up to women and girls to do the choosing, not dictatorial monsters like Hitler.

If we treat abortion as a parallel with holocausts, then it follows that our women and girls are like Hitler and his government. The Rev. Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and Jimmy Swaggart would equate with Hitler in making these choices of death, if you will. (Death for women and girls, that is.) Our women don't parallel with Hitler.

As a pro-choice person, I stand for safe abortions, not death-alley abortions by quacks. I'm for the life of the mother who is breathing and alive, not a breathless and therefore lifeless fetus. Life for women and girls is by far the most beautiful choice. ELLIS J. CARTER MARTINSVILLE
