COUNTRY SINGER TO PERFORM AT MILLER DINNER

A performance by country music singer George Hamilton IV to boost Del. Clinton Miller's bid for the Republican gubernatorial nomination will be held during a barbecue dinner starting at 4 p.m. May 30 at Fort Chiswell High School.

Hamilton, a Grand Ole Opry performer, has recorded such hits as "Abilene" and performed as guest soloist with the Billy Graham Crusade.

Miller is vying with George Allen and Earle Williams for the GOP candidacy.

He said the competition "has grown a little testy lately" and, in invitations to convention delegates for the barbecue, said "it's time to have some fun in this campaign."

Miller is a former recording artist and entertainer himself, and he and Hamilton are friends. Hamilton will perform with his band following the dinner, and appear during the meal as well.

Southwest Virginia's Moonrider band also will perform.

The performance is free for delegates to the Virginia Beach GOP convention. The cost to others is $3.50 for the after-dinner performance and $4 for the dinner.

People can pay at the door or get priority seating by calling (804) 644-3305.
