THRASHING THE ENVIRONMENT

I AM A member of the seventh-grade class at Millboro Elementary School in Bath County. There are 17 members of my class. Every year we have fund-raisers for our annual class trip to Williamsburg. As one of our fund-raisers, we picked up trash on some of the secondary roads, as well as other roads around our school. I didn't realize how trashy our community was until then.

Most people think that one little piece of trash won't hurt anything. Because everyone else thinks the same thing, it makes roadsides and ditches a trash dump. Bath County doesn't look too bad yet, but if people keep littering at the rate they are now, it won't take long.

Please consider what this world would look like if everyone threw their garbage out their car windows. Place it in a trash can, not a ditch. And if you care for the environment, help improve your town by picking up the litter that everyone throws out their windows.

Remember, littering is illegal. JENNIFER WILCHER MILLBORO
