2 JUVENILES CHARGED IN TRAIN DERAILMENT

Two boys were accused Saturday of sabotaging railroad tracks and standing by to watch an Amtrak passenger train derailment that injured six people, police said.

The boys, aged 12 and 13, were accused of wedging pipes under the tracks, causing the 10-car Silver Meteor to hurtle off its path with 57 passengers and 17 crew members aboard Friday night.

The boys, whose names were not released because of their ages, were identified by witnesses and taken into custody at their homes.

Dade County Youth Services ordered them released to their parents. They face juvenile charges of interfering with a railroad and criminal mischief. - Associated Press
