CARROLL MAN CHARGED IN KILLING

A 24-year-old Carroll County man, Melvin Douglas Gwyn, was arrested and charged Saturday with the murder of Terri Teresa Guynn, police said.

The incident - which police would not describe - occurred in the Cana section of Carroll County about 2 a.m. Saturday. The cause of Guynn's death was unknown; an autopsy was being performed on the 31-year-old woman.

Joshua Guynn, Terri Guynn's uncle, said the two "got into it" after Gwyn finished work "and he beat her up." Sheriff R.D. Carrico was unavailable, according to a woman who answered the phone at his home.

Placed under a $90,000 bond, Gwyn was sent to the State Psychiatric Hospital in Petersburg for evaluation, and was scheduled to appear in Carroll Co. Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court in July.
