OBIT HOWLETT, HELEN CAROLYN MABE
HOWLETT, Helen Carolyn Mabe, 82, of Hillsville, peacefully passed away
Thursday evening, May 20, 1993, at the home of a son in Woodlawn. She was born
on September 3, 1910, in Carroll County to the late James Madison Mabe and
Racheal Isabelle Lineberry Mabe. Mrs. Howlett was preceded in death by her
husband, William Alfred Howlett Sr. (a former treasurer of Carroll County),
and also a brother, Silas Mabe. Mrs. Howlett was a life long member of Coulson
Church of the Brethren having been baptized on September 24, 1921. She also
held membership in the V. F. W. Post #1115 Ladies Auxiliary, and the Carroll
County Federation of Republican Women. She filled her life with a dedication
to family and church that is inspiring to all who knew her. Upon her death she
leaves the following survivors to cherish her memory, and mourn her loss, two
sons and daughters-in-laws, William Alfred and Mary Lee Howlett Jr of
Woodlawn, L. Wayne and Jewel Howlett, Elgin, Illinois; four grandchildren,
Carolyn H. Honeycutt, Hillsville, Pamela J. Howlett, Elgin, Ill., Mark W.
Howlett, Elgin, Ill., Scott A. Howlett, Elgin, Ill.; one sister, Hulda M.
Howlett, Hillsville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Harry and Bertha Mabe,
Austinville, Lanzy and Alma Mabe, Hillsville, James and Cleeta Mabe, Pulaski;
six great-grandchildren, William Honeycutt, Lindsay Honeycutt, Lauren Howlett,
Michael Howlett, Alan Howlett, and Brittany Howlett; one sister-in-law, Margie
E. Mabe, Galax; as well as several nieces and nephews who were all special to
her. Funeral services will be Sunday, May 23, 1993, at 1 p.m. at the
Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville, Va., with the Rev. Steve Barb, and
Rev. Enos Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in the North End
Cemetery, Hillsville. The family will receive friends Saturday evening May 22,
1993 from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. Arrangements by Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady
