VA. RIGHTS COUNCIL TO HEAR COMPLAINT

A Colonial Williamsburg tour guide who complained of discrimination will be the subject of the Virginia Council on Human Rights' first public hearing since the council was formed in 1987.

Usually, such matters are settled privately. But the case of the tour guide, who was temporarily disabled when the dispute arose, will be heard Tuesday in Richmond.

Mona Adkins-Easley, director of the nine-member council, would not identify the worker, a woman who injured her knee on the job and asked for a position that required less walking.

She said Colonial Williamsburg removed the woman from consideration for a new position, saying her injury prevented her from the doing the work.

Because the employee has been fired since she filed her complaint, the council's staff is investigating an additional complaint of retaliation. - Associated Press
