Former Roanoker to be trade adviser

Cynthia Arrington, a former Roanoker who has been associate director of the state Small Business Development Centers, will return on July 1 to the new job of export trade development manager.

She will help Western Virginia companies find overseas markets and help those already in exporting expand their markets, said Ralph Graner, director of the state Division of Export Development.

Arrington, a Roanoke College graduate, was a banker before she took the state job. Graner said she has knowledge of export financing through work with the Export-Import Bank and the Virginia Small Business Finance Authority.

The General Assembly has authorized a 20-member Blue Ridge World Trade Alliance, with members to be named by Gov. Douglas Wilder. The trade group grew out of a recommendation by the Blue Ridge Economic Development Commission. - Staff report
