Announced plans to acquire at least three other companies also have fallen through. After Littlefield's announcements, its stock rose to $18.50 a share from as low as 50 cents a share in 1991.
In a letter to shareholders, Littlefield Chairman Curtis Younts said the 1992 plan for a $10.6 million reverse buyout of San Antonio Tent has been canceled. Younts has been president of San Antonio Tent.
The Roanoke Times & World-News obtained a copy of the letter Monday. Younts could not be reached to comment.
Younts' letter said Littlefield is going ahead with a plan to sell contracts for 150 clinics for Americare, an East Islip, N.Y., company. He projected construction of 1,500 to 2,000 clinics in the next three years.
In November, Littlefield bought Medical Sales Associates, a seller of specialty products for the disabled. That company later signed a Veterans Affairs Department contract for wheelchair "support systems."
