In the individual semifinals, Glenvar's Nick Varney advanced with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Giles' Rusty Newby and Floyd's Frank Turpin defeated Nghia Yong of George Wythe 6-3, 6-1. Varney will face Turpin today at 1 p.m.
In doubles semifinals, Turpin and Evan Arno downed Bart Melton and Chris Kaase of George Wythe 6-3, 6-1 while Varney and Eric Starkloff dispatched Newby and Jason Borillo of Giles 6-4, 6-2. The doubles final will follow the singles today. Boys' Region C semifinals Glenvar 9, Floyd 0

\ GIRLS' TENNIS: Lebanon blasted Parry McCluer 9-0 and Giles wiped out Bath County 9-0 in the Region C semifinals to set up the championship match today in Lexington.
In individual play, Floyd's Donna Boyd defeated Parry McCluer's Nikki Camden 6-0, 6-0 to advance to today's singles championship against Lebanon's Kelly Kiser, who moved on with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Marrissa Williams of Bath County. In doubles action, Boyd and Cheri Quesenberry knocked off Camden and Amy Tanner 6-1, 6-2, and Kiser and Amy Fuller beat Williams and Jennifer Jenkins 6-1, 6-0. \ BASEBALL: At Bassett, Dwayne Moore pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11, and Patrick Hobbs hit a key triple as Bassett edged Dan River 2-1 in the Piedmont District tournament's first round.
At Daleville, Donnie Meador knocked in Jack Johnson with one out in the seventh inning as Lord Botetourt defeated Rockbridge County 2-1 in the first round of the Blue Ridge District tournament. Johnson scored both runs for the Cavaliers. Billy Arthur picked up the win in relief and sophomore Gary Tyree picked up the tough loss after pitching 6 innings. Botetourt will meet William Byrd in Vinton on Wednesday morning in the semifinals.
At Buchanan, Keith Bryant pitched a complete-game six-hitter, striking out 11 and walking one, as James River downed Craig County 6-3 in the first round of the Pioneer District tournament. Eddie Miller had two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI for the Knights, while Jodie Steger added three RBI on two hits.
At Bedford, Appomattox scored five runs in the top of the 10th inning to pull out a 6-2 win over Liberty in the first round of the Seminole District tournament. Brad Bryant pitched the complete-game win for the Raiders (11-8) and Brian Goodrich went 3-for-5. The Minutemen finish the season at 12-7.
At Forest, Mark Tyler pitched a two-hit shutout as Jefferson Forest eliminated Buckingham County 6-0 in the first round of the Seminole District tournament. The Cavaliers scored four times in the first inning with three hits and four Knights' errors.
\ SOCCER: At Bedford, Martinsville and Northside advanced to the semifinals of the Region III tournament with opening round victories. The Bulldogs (12-5) downed Brookville (10-6) 4-1 and Northside (8-7-2) edged Bassett (4-10-1) 2-1. In the semifinals at Liberty on Wednesday night, Martinsville will face William Byrd and Northside will meet Jefferson Forest. Brookside10-1 Martinsville22-4
