OBIT PERRY, EDITH N.

PERRY, Edith N., 97, of Roanoke, died Friday, May 21, 1993, in Roanoke. She was born July 30, 1895, in Buffalo, N.Y. Her parents, John and Wilhelmia Nevenger, moved the family to Carlsbad, New Mexico Territory in 1904. She met and married S. Luther Perry in Carlsbad, where they owned and operated the local newspaper, The Carlsbad Current, until moving to Arlington, Texas in 1927. Her father and her husband were two of the first thirteen men to explore the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, with Jim White, who discovered the Caverns. She was preceded in death by her husband; and two daughters, Jean Perry and Doris Gregory of Carlsbad. She is survived by two daughters, Lois Jackson of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Ardathe Young of Roanoke. She has eight grandchildren, Joan J. Childrey, Ron N. Jackson, Robert G. Yound, all of Roanoke, Judy Y. Morris, Fincastle, Jim P. Young, Hickory, N.C., Diane Y. Stephenson, Greensboro, N.C., Phillip Gregory, Carlsbad, N.M., and Col. Robert Gregory, Arizona. Services are scheduled for Tuesday morning, May 25, at Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, N.M., with the Rev. Gene Harbaugh of First Presbyterian Church officiating.
