BOARD SUPPORTS APCO LINE

The Pulaski County Board of Supervisors has gone on record in support of Appalachian Power Co.'s proposed 765,000-volt transmission line from Oceana, W.Va., to Cloverdale.

It did so in an oblique way, passing a resolution at Apco's request associating itself with the Coalition for Energy and Economic Revitalization. That is an organization established to "promote reliable energy sources as a basis for economic development," but specifically to promote the Apco project.

Bob Kilgore, Apco Pulaski division manager, said CEER has more than 200 supporters on record, including businesses, industrial firms, labor unions, chambers of commerce and economic development agencies in both states. So far, only 77 of these are in Virginia.

They include Pulaski Furniture, Magnox Inc. and Renfro Corp.

It did not take long for the supervisors to come up with a request for something from Apco, because the governing body had agreed to Apco's request regarding CEER.

The board voted Monday night to ask Apco to provide public access to Claytor Lake State Park across some of its property in the Snowville area.

In other business, the board agreed to allow the Pulaski County Straight Street Teen Center Committee to use the county's Central Gym as a teen center on Friday nights during the summer. The center will have to move elsewhere in September.

It extended its lease of the former HUB Furniture building on East Main Street in Pulaski (Virginia 99) through July 1995 for a temporary court location while the county's brick courthouse is being renovated and expanded.
