JUDGE SEEKS PROBE OF NORFOLK ATTORNEY

A General District Court judge has asked the attorney general to investigate the city attorney's office.

Judge Charles R. Cloud said the city attorney may have concealed problems at the Norfolk jail in an effort to protect the city from a lawsuit.

In documents mailed to Attorney General Stephen D. Rosenthal on Monday night, Cloud said, "I have learned that, at the very least, counsel for the city of Norfolk have not been candid with the court and may well be concealing facts about the condition of the Norfolk City Jail which require corrective action."

City Attorney Philip Trapani would not comment pending a review of the allegations. - Associated Press
