BONES MCKINNEY TO SPEAK AT RADFORD LUNCHEON

Bones McKinney, former Wake Forest basketball coach and television commentator, will speak at the Radford University Athletic Association Tip-Off Luncheon at noon Thursday in the Muse Hall Banquet Room at Radford.

The luncheon kicks off the start of the Athletic Association's annual fund drive for athletic scholarships.

The luncheon is free to current Radford Athletic Association members and is $5 for guests. For more information, call 831-5108.

For the third straight year, Virginia Tech volleyball player Lisa Pikalek was named to the the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic all-state first team.

Pikalek, a senior psychology and sociology major with a 3.968 grade point average, is the all-time leader in kills at Tech and in the Metro Conference and ranks sixth all-time in NCAA history.

William and Mary's Anna Agbe-Davies (volleyball) and Hampton's Rebecca Bradshaw (softball) also were honored for the third year in a row. Seven other student-athletes were named to the teams for the second straight year, including Matt Holthaus (cross country, track) of James Madison and Rachid Benjelloun (tennis) of Radford.

Washington and Lee was represented on the first team by senior football player Evan Edwards of Roanoke and William "Bo" Hannah (cross country, track).

Virginia women's basketball player Dena Evans was a first-team selection and Heather Burge was on the second team.
