Littlefield describes clinic-building plans Littlefield, Adams & Co. plans to build - through its Medical Sales Associates subsidiary - a chain of health-care clinics, starting in Virginia, North Carolina and West Virginia, President Curtis Younts said Tuesday.

The San Antonio-based subsidiary probably will have at least one Roanoke Valley unit, he said.

Each clinic is expected to be 4,500 to 5,500 square feet and employ 14 people, including a doctor, chiropractor and physical therapist. The buildings will cost $600,000 to $700,000 and could be constructed in 28 days, Younts said. Littlefield Adams expects to retain 20 percent ownership of the clinics, with investors holding the rest.

The company, owner of Collegiate Pacific Co. and Personal Screening Inc. in Roanoke, has reported first-quarter net income of $10.4 million, or $7.72 a share, up from a loss of $72,000, or 6 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue was $3.7 million, up from $979,000. Net income included a gain of about $10 million from the sale of partial marketing rights for a wheelchair support system. - Staff report
