CORRECTIONS
Credit unions will not be covered by the federal Truth in Savings Act for
at least another year. Because of a reporter's error, a story Monday said they
would be covered June 21 along with banks and thrifts. The National Credit
Union Administration said the earliest date of compliance will be mid-1994.
Dick Williams, general manager of N&W Federal Credit Union in Roanoke, said he
expects the final rule will permit credit unions to continue to pay interest
only on the lowest balance in a quarter although a ban against the practice is
still in the draft.
Because of a reporter's error, Florine Thornhill's name was misspelled in
Tuesday's Mingling column.
