65-YEAR TERM GIVEN FOR 2 STORE HOLDUPS

A Roanoke man was sentenced Wednesday to 65 years in prison for robbing two Roanoke County convenience stores in August, a prosecutor said.

Circuit Judge G.O. Clemens overruled a motion to set aside a jury's guilty verdict for James Manuel Bivins, 30, of Staunton Avenue Northwest, according to Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Randy Leach.

Last month, a Roanoke County jury found Bivins guilty of Aug. 22 robberies at a 7-Eleven store on Electric Road and an Orange Market on Peters Creek Road.

Bivins has said he would appeal the verdict. His attorney, John Gregory, could not be reached for comment.
