OBIT JAMES, WILLIAM LOUIS JR.

JAMES, William Louis Jr., ("W.L."), of Richmond, died May 24, 1993, of congestive heart failure and diabetes. He is survived by his daughter, Mary James Legatski; and a son-in-law, Richard Albert Legatski, of Falls Church; and a son, William Louis James III; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon M. James of Fairfax. Mr. James was born in Wythe County, the son of the late William Louis and Mabel Davidson James. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, having served in the China-Burma-India (C.B.I.) Theatre in the Army Air Corps. Following the war, he earned a B.S. degree in agricultural economics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg. He was the retired Chief of the Grain Bureau of the Virginia Department of Agriculture, participated in various state and national agricultural organizations, and received an award of appreciation from the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation. Since his retirement in 1984, Mr. James pursued several hobbies including nature photography, gardening, and the collection of antique cut glass. His remains rest at the Joseph W. Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road, where the family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Stratford Hills United Methodist Church. Interment 4 p.m. in the Ashbury United Methodist Church Cemetery, Cedar Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
