GEORGE ELLIS and BOB BIRCH, both employees of Bova Distributing of Hollins, recently were recognized by Anheuser-Busch Inc.

Ellis, who has been with the company since 1977, was named sales supervisor of the year for District 215.

Birch, a Bova employee since 1990, was named the key accounts manager of the year for Virginia.

\ ACME BUSINESS MACHINES and SHERRY SHELOR of Roanoke were recognized by Lexmark International Inc. as the IBM typewriter dealer and sales representative of the quarter for the Southeast United States.

Recipients are selected by Lexmark for sales and marketing achievements.

\ CHRISTOPHER WRIGHT and JEFFREY T. HALL of the Western Virginia Agency of the Life Insurance Co. of Virginia were named to the 1993 President's Roundtable, the company's top honor for career representatives.

Membership is based on sales performance and career experience, with individuals from throughout the nation competing to be among the company's 60 leading representatives.

\ RUSSELL L. HODGES of Life Insurance Co. of Georgia in Roanoke has earned a 1992 Bronze Medal as the top agent in the Richmond Region, which includes 11 district offices in Virginia and North Carolina.

Hodges, who joined the company in 1961 as an agent in Roanoke, has qualified 31 times for membership in top sales and service honor organizations at Life of Georgia.

\ THE CERTIFIED INSURANCE COUNSELOR designation has been awarded to Philip J. Altizer Sr., Allstate Insurance Co.; Susan S. McLain, McDonough Caperton Insurance Group; Joseph S. Novak, Suter Associates; Judy D. Pruett, Charles Lunsford/Rollins Hudig Hall; and David A. Snebold, The Travelers.

Candidates are awarded the designation after passing examinations in agency management, commercial casualty, commercial property, life and health, and personal lines.

\ VINTON VETERINARY HOSPITAL has been accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association.

The clinic had to complete an evaluation of its facility, medical equipment, practice methods and pet health-care management.

\ MICHAEL R. SMITH, a partner with Barham, Stilwell & Smith, a business- and estate-planning company, has been awarded a certificate in life insurance planning by The American College, Bryn Mawr, Pa. He recently completed five examinations in the chartered life underwriter programs.

\ PITNEY BOWES in Roanoke has four salesmen who qualified for the company's Sales Leadership Conference by achieving high levels of sales excellence and customer service and being in the top 10 percent of the company's nationwide sales force.

Attending this year's conference in Scottsdale, Ariz., were: Charles Eggleston, 26-year employee; Michael Neighbors, a four-year employee; H. Landon Carder, a two-year employee; and Lawrence M. Compter, an 11-year company employee.

\ LIN CHAFF PUBLIC RELATIONS & ADVERTISING of Roanoke was one of 13 Medallion Award winners recognized statewide for superior performance in public relations during 1992.

Chaff's award, in the special projects, business/industry or government entity, low budget category, was for the launch of First Team Auto Mall's "No-Hassle Buying" campaign.
