RELIGION BRIEFS

SUMMER ORGAN RECITALS, sponsored by the Roanoke Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, will begin June 6 with Johnson Scott performing at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church, 1706 Grandin Road S.W. The half-hour programs, free and especially for families, begin at 3 p.m. and are informal dress.

The series will be held on Sundays through Aug. 8, except on July 4. The schedule is as follows: June 13, Joseph Kennedy at South Roanoke United Methodist; June 20, Jeff Hummel at Virginia Heights Baptist; June 27, Jon Johnson at First Baptist on Third Street Southwest; July 11, Charlotte Gregory at Colonial Avenue Presbyterian; July 18, Mildred Heimlich at College Lutheran in Salem; July 25, Robert Chapman at First Presbyterian; Aug. 1, Jim McConnell at Cave Spring United Methodist; and Aug. 8 Steven Wooddell at First Baptist on Third Street Southwest.

\ SEEDS FOR CROATIA, a mission project of Virginia Southern Baptists, resulted in more than 500 congregations sending 67,000 packets of seeds to war-torn areas of the Balkans where hunger is widespread this spring. The seeds were distributed by a representative of the Baptist World Alliance to church workers in areas of greatest need.

\ A VACATION CHOIR SCHOOL for children of any religious background is scheduled in two sessions at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church, 1706 Grandin Road S.W. Phyllis Wampler will be the director.

Children 3 years old through those in the first grade will attend July 6-9 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The fee is $5.

Children in grades 2 through 6 are scheduled for Aug. 9-13 with classes from 9 a.m. to noon. An $8 fee is charged for this group.

This year's school is being sponsored by Cave Spring and South Roanoke United Methodist congregations as well the host church.

\ A PUBLIC SERVICE MEMORIAL WORSHIP, commemorating the work of police, fire fighters, emergency care staffers and their auxiliaries, is scheduled Sunday at 11 a.m. at Villa Heights Baptist Church, 4080 Challenger Ave. This will be the 25th year the Memorial Day observance has been held.

The Rev. Harold C. Lewis, pastor, will be the speaker.

\ A MEMORIAL DAY LITURGY for the dead of any war is planned Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery.

\ THE REV. DR. OWEN G. STULTZ, who retired last year as executive for ministries in the Virlina District, Church of the Brethren, will serve the denomination's Trinity congregation as interim pastor through Oct. 31.

Stultz also has become a representative for Mutual Aid Association of the Church of the Brethren, a nonprofit insurance company for members.

\ THE REV. RICHARD GOTTSHALL, a retired pastor, will begin an interim appointment to Daleville Church of the Brethren on Sunday.

\ EAGLE ROCK BAPTIST CHURCH has scheduled a Southern Gospel music program, featuring Evelyn Conner of Salem for June 13 at 11 a.m.

\ REVIVAL SERVICES, led by Virgil L. Wilson, are planned June 6-9 at Cathedral of Praise Church of God, 1913 Williamson Road.

Services begin nightly at 7 except for Sunday, when services will start at 6.

\ MARANATHA FELLOWSHIP, 2715 Green Ridge Road, will have the Rev. Kenneth Hughes as its guest speaker Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.

\ THE MEN'S CLUB at First Baptist Church of Hollins will hold programs of songs on June 5 and 6 at 6 p.m. to observe its anniversary.
