SUSAN LUCCI LOSES AGAIN

Lucci, who has played Erica Kane for 23 years on "All My Children," was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for the 14th time, and for the 14th time she went home empty-handed.

Linda Dano, who plays Felicia Gallant on "Another World," was named outstanding lead actress over Lucci on Wednesday night during the 20th annual presentation of the awards.

"Thank you to my parents. Mama, I did it," Dano said.

Lucci has made a cottage industry of her perennial losses, including self-mocking TV commercials for artificial sweeteners.

"I feel disappointed, certainly," Lucci told reporters after her record loss. "I would have loved to have won."

Asked what it will take for her to win, she responded: "When you find out you will tell me."

Lucci said her life wouldn't be the same without the manipulative, feisty Erica Kane.

"I can't imagine ever getting tired of Erica Kane. Erica Kane really has my heart. I could never walk away from her," Lucci said.

"The Young and the Restless" on CBS was the outstanding drama series, defeating last year's winner, "All My Children" on ABC and two other CBS soaps, "As the World Turns" and "Guiding Light."

David Canary from "All My Children" was outstanding lead actor for playing twin brothers Adam and Stuart Chandler. It was his fourth Daytime Emmy, the most ever won by an individual.

It was Oprah Winfrey's third time as outstanding talk show host and her show won two other Emmys this year, including technical awards presented May 22.

Winfrey thanked "those of you who vote for `The Oprah Winfrey Show' every day by watching."

Lucci, co-host of the two-hour awards show televised on ABC, made a surprise announcement on the air: One of daytime television's most popular couples, Luke Spencer and Laura Baldwin, will be reunited in the fall on ABC's "General Hospital."
