PEEBLES COMING TO NRV MALL

Peebles Inc., a South Hill-based department store, will move into the New River Valley Mall in September.

Peebles will take over the 65,000-square-foot space vacated by Hess's Inc. this month.

In a news release Thursday, Mike Moorman, Peebles chairman and chief executive officer, said that the company will spend about $500,000 to renovate the store.

"We have been looking for a location in this area for several years," he said. "We're all very excited."

Peebles features clothes, accessories, cosmetics and home fashions.

The store will carry national brands as well as its own domestic and imported private brands.

Peebles operates 20 stores in Virginia and a total of 49 in eight states. The private company had sales of about $141 million in 1992.
