SCHOLAR-ATHLETE CHOSEN FOR GAMES

Jon Maher, a graduate of Blacksburg High School, has been selected to play basketball at the World Scholar-Athlete Games at the University of Rhode Island this summer.

Maher was New River District Player of the Year in 1992 and received the Outstanding Male Athlete and H.B. Dillon Sportsmanship Awards at Blacksburg High. He is majoring in chemical engineering at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, where he played basketball this season.

The World Scholar-Athlete Games June 20-July 1 are organized by the Institute for International Sport to promote understanding, acceptance and friendship among the youth of the world. They are open to ages 16-19.
