Chatham (12-9) led 5-0 after four innings as pitcher Eric Phelps held the Trojans (21-0) to just three hits.
Jason Reece started Chatham's scoring when he slammed a home run in the first inning and drove in Terrace Martin. The Cavaliers got two more runs in the third when Frankie Lester reached on a double and Martin drove him in. Martin scored on an error by Tunstall's shortstop. Chatham got another run in the fourth.
The Trojans rallied in the fifth inning when first baseman Jerry Dallas singled to score Khris Law and Scarce.
In the sixth, Tunstall sent 12 to bat and ended up with six runs on four hits. After Scare's home run, Chris Cox singled to score Cal Scarce and Dallas and give the Trojans an 8-5 lead.
Both teams will advance to the Region III championships Monday at Liberty. Tunstall will face the Seminole district runner-up at 1 p.m. Chatham will play the Blue Ridge District runner-up at 4 p.m.
Tunstall and Chatham advanced to the Piedmont championship game with exciting semifinal victories Thursday.
Tunstall defeated Martinsville 2-1 in 11 innings. Scarce delivered the winning hit with a bases-loaded single over the shortstop. Winner Khris Law pitched 9 innings, giving up five hits and one run.
In the other semifinal, Chatham defeated second-seeded Fieldale-Collinsville 5-4. Terrance Martin had two of Chatham's six hits and scored twice. Fieldale-Collinsville led 3-1 after the first inning, but Chatham got two runs on no hits in the second inning and added two runs in the fifth to pull off the upset. Fieldale-Collinsville pulled to one run down in the bottom of the seventh and left a runner on third base. Pitcher Spencer Martin had two hits for the Cavaliers.
In other high school baseball:
A one-hitter by junior Brad Leonard carried Carroll County to a 5-1 victory over Christiansburg and the championship of the New River District baseball tournament Friday at Hillsville.
Leonard (6-1), a right-hander, walked two and struck out nine for the Cavaliers (15-3), who will play host to Gate City on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the first round of the Region IV Tournament.
Byron Gates' fourth-inning single was the only hit for Christiansburg (7-12), which scored its run in the inning. The Demons also earned a berth in the Region IV Tournament; they will play at Tazewell on Tuesday.
Jason Anderson threw a three-hitter and struck out 15 as Glenvar trounced Covington 5-1 in the championship game of the Pioneer District Tournament at Casey Field in Covington.
Anderson also led the Highlanders in batting with three hits and three RBI.
Top-seeded Glenvar scored three runs in the first inning and scored again in the second to lead 4-0. The Highlanders made the score 5-0 before the Cougars got a run in the last inning.
Mark Folks led Covington with two hits and scored Covington's lone run on a hit by Brian Rice.
Both teams advance to the Region C tournament in Lebanon next week. Covington will face Castlewood at 2 p.m. Wednesday and the winner will play Giles Thursday at 2 p.m. Regular-season champion Glenvar will face the winner of Wednesday's Lebanon-Grayson County contest Friday at 5 p.m.
The Region C title game will be played next Saturday at 1 p.m.
\ SOFTBALL: Amber Vines had three hits and Melissa Markham had two hits and three RBI to lead James River (18-3) past Glenvar 12-5 in the championship game of the Pioneer District tournament. Sherry Allison (16-2) went the distance for the Knights, who face Floyd County at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Floyd County in a Region C matchup. Glenvar will face Castlewood at 4:30 Tuesday at Floyd.
Gretna and Tunstall advanced to today's Piedmont District tournament championship with semifinal victories at Dry Fork on Thursday.
The Hawks got three hits from Angela Stover and two each from Heather Roland and Lashaun Barber as they edged Fieldale-Collinsville 6-5.
Tunstall scored eight fifth-inning runs on its way to a 13-2 win over Patrick County. For the Trojans, Audra Freeman, Christy Turner and Kelly Wood each drove in two runs and Stacie Adkins had three hits. Brenda Laflamme pitched six innings for the win. She allowed one run, five hits and no walks while striking out seven.
The championship game is at 1 p.m. at Tunstall. Both teams advance to next week's Region III tournament.
