BUCCANEERS FALL 3-2 IN 11 INNINGS

The Kinston Indians rallied for two ninth-inning runs, then tacked on the game-winner in the 11th to knock off Salem 3-2 in a Carolina League baseball game Friday night.

The Buccaneers took a 2-0 lead to the bottom of the ninth, but with the bases loaded and one out, Kinston's Tony Mitchell hit a two-run single to center field off Sean Evans to tie the score 2-2.

Two scoreless innings later, Pat Maxwell singled Mitchell home with two outs to make a loser of Matt Ruebel and a winner of Robert Rivera, who pitched 3 1/3 innings of one-hit relief. Three Kinston pitchers combined to allow five hits and strike out 17 batters.

Salem scored once in the second inning on a double steal by Marty Neff and Keith Thomas. Neff reached on a bunt single, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Thomas, who was hit by a pitch, stole second as Neff swiped home to give the Bucs a 1-0 lead.

Salem went up 2-0 on a monster homer by Trace Ragland in the top of the ninth. The solo blast was Ragland's second of the season.
