Greenvale Nursery School received $1,360 to fund a parenting education program to address the rising number of young children entering the child-care system who come from dysfunctional and disadvantaged families.
Teachers and parents will also get a $1,000 grant for a program conducted by the education department of Planned Parenthood on understanding early childhood development, early self-esteem development, gender-bias issues and how to protect young children from sexual abuse.
The foundation granted $1,000 to Family Service of Roanoke Valley to support the agency's one-on-one, in-home parent aide program for at-risk parents and their children.
A grant also went to the Child Health Investment Partnership, which received $1,038 to fund the purchase of a series of educational videos and handouts on effective parenting.
