OBIT SAYERS, SAMUEL RUSH

SAYERS, Samuel Rush, 85, a native of Wytheville, and a former resident of Charleston, W.Va. died May 27, at the Lewis-Gale Hospital, Salem, Virginia, after a long illness. He was born in Wytheville, Virginia, the son of Fanny Guy Sayers and Robert Sayers, a prominent lawyer. After attending local schools, he graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in electrical engineering. He went to Charleston, W.Va., in 1930 and was employed by Appalachian Power Company. After a year with Appalachian he joined the engineering department of Union Carbide in South Charleston, where he worked until his retirement in 1973. After retirement, Mr. Sayers returned to Wytheville where he managed his Anchor and Hope Farm. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at the East End Cemetery in Wytheville by the Reverends Laurie McAlpine and Claude McCauley, a cousin, on Sunday, May 30 at 1:30 p.m. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville, Va. is in charge of the arrangements.
