CARROLL COUNTY MAN RESCUED FROM OLD MINE

A 23-year-old Carroll County man was rescued from an abandoned mine Saturday after spending the night there.

A spokesman for the Pipers Ridge Rescue Squad declined to identify the man who entered the mine shortly after noon Friday.

He said the incident happened in the Iron Ridge section of Carroll County, which is dotted with caves and mine shafts.

The man lost control of his rope and fell 10 to 15 feet. He suffered abrasions and lacerations and was forced to spend the night.

The man's family found him Saturday and called the rescue squad to get him out of the shaft.
