JEFFERSON FOREST CAPTURES SEMINOLE DISTRICT CROWN

Scott Spencer hit the winning RBI single in the seventh inning as Jefferson Forest slipped past Amherst 4-3 to win the Seminole District baseball tournament Friday night in Altavista.

The Cavaliers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on two errors at the plate. Amherst (17-4) got a run in the bottom of the first to make the score 2-1.

Carter Lee slammed a solo homer in the top of the fourth to give Jefferson Forest a 3-1 lead, then Lancer Justin Johannes retaliated with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score.

Spencer's single gave the Cavaliers (17-4) the win.

Both teams will advance to the Region III tournament at Liberty University. Jefferson Forest will face unbeaten Tunstall at 1 p.m. Monday. Regular-season champion Amherst received a bye for the first round. - Staff report
