WRITER TO SPEAK

Writer Rita Milios, author of ``I Am,'' ``Sneaky Pete,'' ``The Hungry Billy Goat,'' and ``Grace Who Loved Gadgets,'' will be the first of four writers featured in the Appalachian Center for Poets and Writers' annual ``Children and Their Writing'' series.

She will speak Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Arts Depot in Abingdon. Her lecture is titled ``Whole Language, Whole Children.''

On Thursday, she will offer a free writing workshop for children ages 6-8 at the Arts Depot from 10 a.m.-noon. From 2-4 p.m., she will conduct a workshop for adults interested in writing for children. This workshop costs $20.

Workshops will continue June 10 with writer Anne Shelby, June 17 with writer Jo Carson, and June 24 with writer Dick Hague.
