MONTGOMERY WOMAN DIES IN HIT-RUN

A Montgomery County woman was killed early Sunday after being struck by a car as she walked along U.S. 11.

Myrna J. Clendenin, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No charges had been filed Sunday night, as police continued to search for an apparent hit-and-run motorist.

Passing motorists reported seeing a body lying on the side of the road about 5:30 a.m. near Washington Auto Wholesale.

Clendenin had been living about a quarter of a mile away, according to Lt. O.P. Ramsey of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department.

She was apparently walking east toward Christiansburg when she was struck by a motorist who failed to stop, Ramsey said.

Her body was identified by her hairdresser a few hours later. An autopsy will be performed.

Clendenin was barefoot and may have been walking on the edge of the highway's pavement at the time she was struck, Ramsey said.
