The youth, whose name was not available, was apparently more shaken than seriously injured after a 30-foot fall.
He was treated and released from a Roanoke Valley hospital, according to Lt. T.W. Haynes of the Roanoke County Police Department.
Haynes said it took rescue workers about an hour to remove the teen-ager from the rock wall of a quarry off Woodhaven Road Northwest.
The 13-year-old and three teen-age friends had gone to the quarry on property of Adams Construction Co. about 11:45 a.m. Sunday, Haynes said.
All four youths climbed down a steep drop-off to a rock ledge overlooking the quarry, then retraced their route back up the cliff.
While the first three made it back to the top, the 13-year-old slipped and fell back onto the ledge. He stayed there until rescue workers lowered the gurney to him on ropes and pulled him up to safety.
