The Bucs led 2-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but for the sixth consecutive game, Salem relievers failed to hold a lead. Kinston scored four times in the seventh and five in the eighth.
Salem starter Esteban Loaiza worked six innings, leaving after giving up a hit and a run in the seventh. He allowed five hits, walked two, struck out five and gave up two runs, both earned.
Salem's Sean Evans came on and in one-third of an inning walked three, struck out one, gave up a hit and saw three earned runs come home as Kinston took a 5-2 lead. Matt Ruebel entered and got the Bucs out of the inning.
Salem rallied and tied the score 5-5 in the eighth on right fielder Tracy Ragland's three-run homer, the only extra-base hit.
The Indians weren't done, using three walks and an error to score five more runs in the eighth for a 10-5 lead.
Indians reliever David Welch (4-3) pitched 2 1/3 innings for the win, allowing three runs on three hits.
Ruebel, who worked one inning, ended up with the loss after Kinston scored five runs, four unearned, in the eighth to lead 10-5.
Salem had nine hits, two each by designated hitter Ken Bonifay and catcher Angelo Encarnacion.
Pat Maxwell, Pete Rose Jr. and Marc Marini each had two of the Indians' eight hits.
\ BUCSHOTS: Kinston (28-23) leads Salem (23-26) by four games in the Carolina League's Southern Division. . . . The Bucs are back at Salem Municipal Field today, where they play the Wilmington Blue Rocks at 7 p.m. Dennis Konuszewski is scheduled to be Salem's starter.
