OBIT-WAGONER, DR. JOSEPH KIRBY

WAGONER, Dr. Joseph Kirby, 57, of Smith Mountain Lake and formerly of Springfield, died Sunday, May 30, 1993, at his residence after a brief illness. He was born in Northfield, Minn.,on December 4, 1935, a son of Mary Kirby Wagoner of Rochester, Minn., and the late Joseph Wagoner. Dr. Wagoner was retired from the U.S. Public Health Service after 20 years of service and was also affiliated with OSHA and the Environmental Defense Fund. After moving to Huddleston in 1990, Dr. Wagoner took part in many civic affairs in the lake are. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Jeanne D. Wagoner; three sons, Joseph Paul Wagoner, Miami, Fla., John Robert Wagoner and his wife, Julie, Alexandria, James David Wagoner, Huddleston; a brother and a sister, Dr. Richard Wagoner, Rochester, Minn., Mary Lou DeMann, Raleigh, N.C.; also his mother-in-law, Signe Hornsten, Huddleston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 2, 1993, at 3 p.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church, Moneta, by the Rev. Michael Champlin and the Rev. James J. Begley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Resurrection Catholic Church on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Thomas More Center for Preaching & Prayer, 27781 Leef Road, Webster, Wis. 54893. Arrangements are being handled by the Carder-Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford.
