OBIT-WETMORE, DR. STANLEY IRWIN JR.

WETMORE, Dr. Stanley Irwin Jr., 53, of Lexington, died Sunday, May 30, 1993 at his residence. He was a professor of Chemistry at Virginia Military Institute for the past 29 years, serving as Department Chairman for six years. Dr. Wetmore received his BS and MS in Chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his PhD from the State University of New York in Buffalo. He was heavily involved with the Rockbridge Christmas Basket Program for 20 years and served as director of the V.M.I. Research Labs and Chairman of the Blue Ridge Section of the American Chemical Society. He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Whitmore, Lexington; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Todd McCullough, Newport News; son, Douglas Wetmore, Blacksburg; two grandsons, Tyler and Ryan McCullough, Newport News; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley I. Wetmore, Roanoke. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, June 2, 1993 2 p.m. at Jackson Memorial Hall at V.M.I. with Chaplain Charles Caudill officiating. Burial will follow in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Rockbridge County area Hospice of the American Cancer Society. Harrison Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
