NAMES ON CAMPUS

ARUN G. PHADKE, a professor of electrical engineering at Virginia Tech, has been named to the National Academy of Engineering, the highest honor given to engineers. Phadke specializes in electrical power systems and the application of computers for their protection and control. He also is director of Tech's Center for Electrical Power.

THOMAS H. HOHENSHIL, professor of education and psychology, recently conducted a two-day workshop for counselors, social workers and psychologists in Vancouver, British Columbia. The workshop, sponsored by the provincial government, covered the diagnosis of mental disorders using the DSM-111-R system.

NORMAN E. DOWLING, professor in the departments of engineering science and mechanics and material science, has written a textbook, "Mechanical Behavior of Materials." Published by Prentice-Hall, the book explores the methods used in industry to evaluate and predict the behavior of materials.

G. WAYNE CLOUGH, dean of the College of Engineering, presented a keynote address at the Loma Prieta Earthquake Symposium sponsored by the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute and the National Research Council.

LORE BALKAN, a database analyst with Institutional Research, has been elected an association vice president by the Data Processing Management Association.

JASON WAYNE SCHILLEN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne H. Schillen of Elliston, was named to the dean's list at Virginia Tech for the fall 1992 semester. Schillen is majoring in microbiology.

ERIC A. WIEDEGREEN and JEANETTE E. BOWKER, professors of interior design, received a first in the Interior Design Educators Council's 1993 competition for their "GE-NE-RA-TI-ON" exhibit.
