HAWKS 3RD IN BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

The Roanoke Hawks AAU basketball team finished third Sunday at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions in Hickory, N.C.

The Hawks, one of 16 teams in the age-17-and-under event, defeated Raleigh, N.C., 67-61 in their first game. Curtis Staples led the way with 22 points.

Roanoke finally lost to Tennessee 69-68 at the buzzer before beating Boo Williams of Hampton 73-67 in the third-place game.
