OBIT-MATTOX, ANNIE NESTER
MATTOX, Annie Nester, 92, of Route 2, Moneta, died Sunday, May 30, 1993 in
the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. She was born in Wythe County on February
28, 1901, a daughter of the late George Albert Nester and Minnie Bell Jones
Nester. She was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church and was the wife of
Robert P. Mattox Sr. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mable M. Bowden.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by eight children and their
spouses, Anne M. and Charles Latimer, Bedford, Catherine M. and Bill Pierce,
Ruckersville, Barbara M. and Clarence Catron, Bedford, Robert P. and Darlene
Mattox Jr., Huntington Beach, Calif., Mary M. and Bill Blankenship, Vinton,
Henry D. and Jeanette Mattox, Jeffersonville, Ind., Joyce M. and Joe Marr,
Richmond, James A. and Nancy Mattox, Christiansburg; a brother and a sister,
Arthur D. Nester, Roanoke and Rosalee N. Nance, Ridgeway; also 33
grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a special
friend, Arthur Gebhard; son-in-law, Rodney Bowden. Funeral services will be
conducted on Wednesday, June 2, 1993 at 11 a.m. at Flint Hill Baptist Church
with the Revs. Michael Winters and John C. Mitchell Jr. officiating. Burial
will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the
Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford on Monday and Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and
at other times at the residence in Moneta.
