OBIT-BOWLES, NORMAN ELWOOD

BOWLES, Norman Elwood, 83, of Lexington, died Monday, May 31, 1993, in a local hospital. A son of the late Mr. Hugh Bowles and the late Mrs. Mildred M. Bowles, he was born May 19, 1910, in Lexington. He was a member of the First Baptist Church were he served on the Trustee Board, the Usher Board and the Mens' Club. Other affiliations include membership in the American Legion Post #291 and the NAACP. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the United States Navy and and a retiree from the U.S. Postal Service. Surviving are one sister, Ms. Elsie Bowles; three nephews, Theodore J. Nicholas, Jr., and Norman Edward Bowles, all of Lexington; Lewis Frederick Bowles, Kensington, Md. The family will receive friends at the Bowles' residence on Wednesday evening from 7 til 8 p.m. The boby may be viewed at the Lewis Funeral Home, Wednesday from 10 a.m. til 5 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. James B. Harris minister. The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Lexington Life Saving and First Aid Crew. J. B. Lewis Funeral Service is handling the arrangements.
