CLAYTOR LAKE FISHING TOURNEY AND LITTER CLEANUP COULD PROVIDE A FEW TREASURES

Some lucky fisherman could win $5,000 by catching "Sly Sam" - a specially tagged bass - during the eighth annual 1260-J/Claytor Lake State Park Fishing Tournament sponsored by WJJJ Radio (1260 AM).

The event, coupled with a lake litter cleanup, will take place June 26, 8 a.m.-3 p.m., at Claytor Lake State Park. Check-in and final weigh-in will be at the gazebo near Howe House.

There's no entry fee, but participants must fill out a registration card, then check in with the tournament director on the day of the event to compete for cash, prizes and trophies. The card includes contest rules, free admission to the park and free boat launching the day of the tournament.

Registration cards are available at New River Valley businesses, Claytor Lake State Park, or WJJJ studios off U.S. 460.

Litter collectors should look for "treasure bottles" in the lake. If turned in with a bag of trash, they may be redeemed for door prizes. New River Cruise Company will offer a tour at 10 a.m., and the game warden will talk on lake wildlife at 11 a.m.
