WYTHE MAN FACES CHARGE OF HELPING FUGITIVE HIDE

A 40-year old Wythe County man is scheduled for trial July 2 on charges of helping a fugitive hide from authorities in Jefferson National Forest.

Tim E. Harden was charged with aiding Willie Lon Rice II avoid prosecution by providing Rice with transportation, food and supplies.

Lt. Keith Dunigan of the county Sheriff's Department said Harden was charged after a handwriting analysis of letters in Rice's camp showed that Harden could have written them.

Rice, 27, is being held in the county jail pending a preliminary hearing Monday. He was arrested last month on charges including break-ins, rape, possession of explosives and burglary. - Southwest bureau
